you're preaching to the choir as far as stars and ratings go...most of VT's best players were very underrated in high school

Jimmy Williams 2-stars
Michael Vick 4-stars (but only other school to heavily recruit him was Syracuse)
Jake Grove 2-stars
Jeff King 2-stars

there's tons more...most of the kids VT has put in the NFL are 2 and 3 stars...we haven't had a top 15 class that I can remember but we've been near the top of the list for putting the most players in the NFL for the past 3 years including being outdone only by USC last year by 1 or 2 players </div></div>
throw those HS rankings right in the trash because they dont mean [censored]

lets look at some of the most recent cane "greats"

lance leggett 5 stars
ryan moore 5 stars
willie williams 5 stars
akieem jolla 5 stars
alton wright 5 stars
tyler mc means 5 stars

ed reed 2 stars

see where im going with this?

those rankings dont have any direct correlation as to how well a kid will play in college

i pay no attention to them at all

99 times out of 100 the thing that makes great HS players great college players is coaching and development

there is always the exception that can step right in and be dominant.......however without good coaching and development these kids often top out very early in the college careers and dont improve much between their frosh and senior years

Marve was a freshman, has alot of talent, and with some coaching its hard to say how good he good be. You just never know. He wasnt ready to be thrown to the wolves, most freshmen arent. Its pretty obvious that Kiffin is saying Boyd cant do what we want him to do whereas Marve at least has the skill set to do what they want him to do. I just cant believe you dont see that. Comparing Boyd to Marve is like comparing Tommy Frazier to Troy Aikman. Even if they were both evenly great, Aikman is the one that fits into Kiffin's system. It really was a dumb question.

you said yourself it's hard to say how good he could be...same goes for Tahj Boyd...neither QB will help next year, that's a given...but with Boyd you have 4 years to bring him along, and while he is learning the QB aspects he can make plays with his legs...whereas Marve is gonna need a good O-Line and will only have 2 years

you act like Boyd can't throw either...it's called "dual-threat", not "running qb"

VT hasn't landed many 5-star kids, but the ones we have landed have turned out pretty well so far

i may be missing one or two, and we will have a shot at another one with Logan Thomas, and he looks like he should do alright

Tyrod Taylor has underperformed, but like was said earlier about Marve, he was thrown into the fire early when he was still 17...but nevertheless has led VT to back-to-back ACC titles and BCS bowl games and still has his best football ahead of him

and Grant Noel fits UT's system alot better than say Taylor, Randle, Vick, Vick, Clark, or DeShazo do. Boyd is just like every one of those guys. Most good QB's do need a good line. I think Kiffin would want to create a good line. Wow, I thought all teams want to develop a good line.

Has Taylor really LED them to those accomplishments? It sure as hell looks like the defense LED them to me.

Kiffin doesnt want someone learning a position while they are making plays with their legs. Every guy that hes ever coached learned the position. They didnt make plays with their legs. Being a VT fan, Im sure you think running the ball is what QB's are supposed to do first, but they arent. All of those guys at USC do just fine while having limited mobility.
